Coaching Staff

Head Coach - Pam Friend

Coach Pam Friend started her swimming career at the age of 4 with the FROGS, continued as a FROG for 12 years and at the age of 6 started swimming year round. She competed at National and International Swim Meets. Pam was recruited by numerous colleges and accepted a swim scholarship to Lock Haven University, later transferring to George Mason where she continued to swim. She graduated from George Mason with a B.A. in Communication Management and later earned a Master’s in that field. Pam works for the U.S. Air Force in Public Affairs and completed leadership and officer related courses. She has been an instructor with SwimKids as one of their primary head coaches. Pam is a lifelong swimmer and advocate for the sport. Her goal is to spread the joy that she enjoyed in the sport of swimming to the FROGS she coaches. She is a mother of two. Her son Andre joined the FROGS last year. In her spare time she coaches Andre’s soccer team. Pam is also the current FROGS record holder in Girls 8 & Under Backstroke, a record that has stood since 1989!

Assistant Coach - Melody Nordberg

Hi! My name is Melody & I'm a 2012 graduate of Grace Preparatory School in Stafford & just completed my senior year at Messiah College near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I enjoy volleyball, tennis, singing, teaching Sunday School, reading & especially writing. I swam with the Frogs for ten years and in those years discovered not only the incredible joy of swimming but the power of positive thinking and hard work. I am so excited to be able to pass the same legacy on to a community of swimmers and parents that makes swimming with the Frogs a joy and a privilege. I cannot begin to describe my enthusiasm to be a coach for such a wonderful team, one that has taught me so much! My experience with the Frogs has been one that I hope to pass on to every swimmer so that hard work, positive attitude, having fun & the delight of swimming will stretch swimmers to grow in and out of the pool. Go Frogs!

Assistant Coach - Holly Livingston

Holly was on the Frogs since the age of 4, following in the footsteps of her older siblings April, Tara, and Matthew but aged out last season. She began swimming year round at the age of 5 on Amberjax and later on QDD. She swam three years for Hylton HS, qualifying for Regionals all three years. Holly began coaching for the Frogs in 2013 and has continued to swim as well. She worked as a lifeguard for four summers at Waterworks Waterpark and is certified in CPR and First Aid by the American Heart Association. Holly spent time during her senior year volunteering child care services at Dumfries Elementary School and was a babysitter for multiple families. She is attending Northern Virginia Community College for two years with the intent of transferring to George Mason University to become an elementary school teacher. Although a shoulder injury has limited her ability to swim, Holly has always loved the sport of swimming and has discovered that coaching is the most rewarding way to stay involved with the sport that she loves.

Assistant Coach - Emily Nordberg

Emily “Emie” Nordberg began swimming for the Frogs when she was 5 years old and has been a member of the team ever since! She also swam for Occoquan Swimming (OCCS) until age 17, qualifying twice for NASA Junior Nationals in Clearwater, Florida. Emily graduated from Grace Preparatory high school early in 2014, took a gap year, then began her freshman year and college swimming career at Division 1 school Gardner-Webb University (Coastal Collegiate Sports Association conference) in Boiling Springs, NC, where she is majoring in Exercise Science with a pre-Physical Therapy emphasis. In addition to holding several records for the Frogs (Girls 8 & under fly & tied for breast, 9-10 back & IM, 11-12 back & IM, 13-14 back & IM, 15-18 fly), some of Emily’s other honors include graduating high school as Valedictorian, Most-Inspiration Female Swimmer for OCCS and most recently the Freshman Math Award for Gardner-Webb University. Emily is also an author! Look for her book “The Song of the ἓan” to appear on Amazon.com very soon. While she is sad to soon be saying goodbye to the Frogs as a swimmer, Emie is thrilled to be coaching full time this season after serving as an assistant coach the past two years. Go Frogs!
